Ngatadei, Lokichar Mission Station
There was a big celebration on 28th January 2026 at Ngatadei, Lokichar, Turkana when the Presiding Bishop, Rev. Dr Calisto Odede was warmly received by the community with song and dance. We praise God for the community members who donated land to CITAM to set up a mission centre there. The Deputy County Commissioner Mr Gideon Ombongi with a representative from the Governor of Turkana, Mr. Simon Koloi Sub County Administrator were present, thanking CITAM for joining hands with World Vision Kenya to transform the lives of the people there.
Bishop Odede expressed his gratitude to the community for their warm welcome and acknowledged the valuable support received from both national and county government officials. He went on to introduce the new Head of Missions, Rev. Joseph Ndung’u, together with Pastor Justus Mwangangi, who will be pioneering the missions work in the area.
“We trust God to begin with the establishment of a mission station,” Bishop Odede promised. “Pastor Justus Mwangangi is now here with you to work with you.” Later a school and a dispensary will be put up as CITAM seeks partership with other likeminded organisations like World Vision Kenya to initiate relief and development programs.
Ngatadei is a remote place whose inhabitants are faced with a myriad of extreme challenges. The area faces intense heat reaching over 40 degrees centigrade with minimal cloud cover, arid/semi-desert and drought‑prone conditions, strong winds, and extreme dryness, all characteristic of the broader Turkana climate and among the harshest environmental conditions in Kenya. Turkana frequently endures prolonged dry spells, weak rainy seasons, and chronic drought risk conditions that heavily impact water availability, pasture conditions and livelihoods especially pastoralism.
You can hardly get somebody who can read and write because over 80% of the residents have never attended formal schooling. Children rarely attend school with the nearest institution located over 20 kms away.
Without doubt, this is the place where with God’s help and guidance, CITAM is required to establish a station and earnestly begin the huge task of transforming the lives of many.
Ngatadei Inaugural Service Held
We praise God that Ng’atadei Mission Station held their inaugural service on Saturday, 8th February 2026 from 4 pm to 6pm. “We had a wonderful time and the elders sent greetings to CITAM,” Pastor Justus Mwangangi said. “We had about 80 people present and 30 children”. We continue to pray and encourage our brother, Pastor Mwangangi as he pioneers the mission work there. We will take over Ng’atadei and the entire Kalapata through the transforming power of the gospel. Amen.
