Northern Kenya continues to experience chronic food insecurity driven by recurrent droughts, climate shocks, livestock losses, insecurity, and poverty. Counties such as Isiolo, Samburu, Marsabit, and Turkana face cyclical hunger crises that severely affect children, pregnant and lactating mothers, the elderly, and pastoralist households.
The Bread of Life Campaign has enabled us to feed 965 households drawn from communities around all our missions in the Northern Frontier. The food bought in phase one was worth KSH 1.6million. We managed to give maize, beans, rice, cooking oil, sugar and Sossi. This included our newest station at Ng’atadei, Kalapata where 100 people gave their lives to Christ during the food distribution. Nga’tadei received 35 new congregants after the BOL distribution.
ERDO, one of our donors gave Ksh 1.8 million which has fed 340 households through cash transfers, each household receiving ksh 5000 in April and May.
We hope to carry out second phase in the next three weeks targetting 2,500 households. Each household will get:
- Beans 5kgs
- Maize 15kgs
- Rice 4kgs
- Cooking oil 1ltr
At CITAM Archer’s Post and Laresoro Satellite Church, 150 families were reached by the intervention. As a church committed to holistic mission, Christ Is The Answer Ministries (CITAM) responds to hunger not simply as a humanitarian need but as a Gospel mandate (James 2:15–17; Matthew 25:35). We thank God for the CITAM Family for their generous giving in feeding the least of these.
The beneficiaries of BOL are so grateful. Among the beneficiaries were Muslim households who lauded CITAM for our continued generosity. In Nga’tadei, the staff involved in the distribution were received with song and dance and they truly appreciated the food.
Prior to the initiative our missionaries had shared with us how Muslim organizations were enticing people to join Islam through food donations and they were afraid that some in their congregations would turn to Islam. The drought was very severe, but we thank God that the initiative is saving for those who are most vulnerable.
